Welcome to the Europe Mediterranean Trade Agreement web site.

The Europe Mediterranean Trade Agreement was formed early in 2000 as the successor to several smaller groupings which had been involved in the region. It covers containerised cargo carried by sea within the following geographical ranges:

Northern Europe:

All ports of the Baltic Sea (including Russia), Scandinavia, United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and France (Atlantic ports only).

Mediterranean:

All ports of Egypt, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Greece, Mediterranean (incl. Marmara sea) ports of Turkey, Tunisia, Southern Italy (Bari, Naples, Salerno, Gioia Tauro, Taranto, Brindisi and all ports of Sicily).

IMPORTANT - TERMINATION OF EMTA OPERATIONS

To coincide with the repeal of the liner conference exemption in EC Regulation 4056/86, EMTA will terminate operations on 17 October 2008. Accordingly, the conference tariff and any other existing EMTA arrangements will cease to be in operation on 18 October 2008.
